Our Pastor

The Reverend Dr. Richard Allen Hyde

I was ordained to the ministry of the Gospel at Rollins Chapel, Dartmouth College in the spring of 1981. In addition to being chaplain at Dartmouth from 1978 to 1985, I have been the pastor of congregations in Vermont, Massachusetts, California.
My ministry is deeply grounded in movement education, whether the movement be of the mind, the body or the spirit. Movement education is closely related to somatics and both have been nurtured at the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California where I have spent a lot of time.
"Bend, Stretch and Breathe" is the name of my physical movement practice, which is a meditative blend of Yoga, Aikido, Tai Chi, Soul-Motion and the Holy Spirit. One-hour sessions take place at the Parish House every Friday afternoon at 5:30.  No experience necessary.  I also lead a Bible Study every Thursday morning at 10:00 in the Parish House.
I am also Principal of the Religion and Core Values Consulting Group. In that capacity I help people and organizations to identify, celebrate and promote their core values. My basic instructional tool is a series of illustrated lectures on public monuments, the great objects of public art that have resulted from tremendous political and cultural movements.

I was in Washington, DC from September 7 to September 14.  I led tours of the National Mall for a group of Presbyterian ministers, students from the Notre Dame Washington Program and the Harvard Club.
